The Livestock Committee works year-round to support the Agricultural Science programs in our community’s high schools. Students at Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Clear Creek ISD and Galena Park ISD schools who are active members of the FFA or Junior FFA are eligible to participate in the PLS&R Livestock Show.
Exhibitors may participate in one, or many, of the competitions available to them. Students can choose to raise an animal (rabbits, turkeys, broilers, lambs, goats, hogs or steers) and show them here for a chance to participate in the PLS&R Livestock Auction. Each year the PLS&R Livestock Auction awards hundreds of thousands of dollars of prize and scholarship money to these hard-working students. Students may also participate in our heifer show, agricultural mechanics show, floral design show or creative arts competition. These FFA students are eligible to receive one of the many scholarships awarded by the PLS&R Association each year.
Many of our exhibitors compete in the Calf Scramble, which takes place during the Rodeo performance most nights. Each evening, around 25 students attempt to catch 6 calves, place a halter on one and lead it to the center of the arena for an opportunity to win prizes and bragging rights.
The Livestock Show Schedule is posted on our Important Dates page. We invite everyone to come out and support the youth of our community. The Livestock Barn is open before the rodeo performances, so bring the family and come out and visit us. See the animals and meet some of the exhibitors! Please remember that the Livestock Barn is a no smoking, no alcohol environment. Please do not feed any of the animals.
